Open Research Positions at University of Genoa – PRIN 2022 Project QUASAR-AI

Two 12-month research positions at the University of Genoa are open for applications. Project goals and relevant research activities are described below.

Project QUAntification of SARcopenia in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease using Artificial Intelligence for CT analysis ofrespiratory muscles: development of new biomarkers and outcome measures (QUASAR-AI) – Prot. 2022FA4RN2 – CUP D53D23013480006 – program “Progetti di Ricerca di Rilevante Interesse Nazionale” (PRIN) 2022, funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU.

QUASAR-AI is aimed at exploring the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in identifying specific disease phenotypes and elaborating outcome measures in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) through the extraction of quantitative biomarkers from Computed Tomography (CT) and their integration with clinical and instrumental data. The primary objective of QUASAR-AI is to explore the potential of CT in quantifying muscle atrophy and its relationship with clinical manifestations and outcomes in patients with COPD. The developed system will enable the analysis of respiratory muscles from chest CT images, the extraction of quantitative parameters, and the exploration of the interwoven relationships between clinical, instrumental and CT data with outcome measures.
Research Grants:

Development of an integrated system for quantitative data extraction and analysis from non-enhanced Computed Tomography of the chest in patients with COPD (12 months): the research activity will be carried on at the San Martino Polyclinic Hospital of Genoa, in collaboration with researchers from the Department of Health Sciences and from CNR. The researchers will have access to the facilities of the Polyclinic Hospital and the Department of Health Sciences of the University of Genoa, including workstations and software for image analysis.
