Movement in sport: addressing the problem

Studying movement in sport is difficult. Athletes perform at higher intensities and are subjected to much higher mechanical loads than those that people experience in everyday activities. Also, the variety and peculiarities of the different sports disciplines and the requirements of the environment (e.g., location, dimensions, materials, interaction with specific equipment and other players) in which they take place, further complicate the task for the researcher. In this talk I will discuss the challenges associated with assessing movement behaviour in sport, and explore their implications for technique optimisation, injury prevention, or rehabilitation.
